There are times when you just need to recharge. This weekend was everything I wanted it to be and MORE.
When I first realized that I would have a kid free weekend, my husband had already signed up to work overtime that weekend. To say I was bummed at the realization is the understatement of the year.
It is seriously the BEST feeling ever to know that after 11 years together, I am still madly in love with my husband. I certainly don’t want to say that I forgot, but life gets busy. Especially when you have five kids. So a majority of our time and focus isn’t always on each other.
This past weekend my husband turned down the opportunity to make a ton of money to spend his time with me instead. And he didn’t disappoint.
We started our Saturday at BCW registration, doing what we love to do…. when we finished up there, we headed to Virginia Beach to try out Top golf. And let me tell you that was a blast. We played a few rounds of golf, and had a pretty stellar meal to top it off.
On our way home, we noticed some event was happening at Waterside. So enjoying our new found freedom we decided to check it out. We walked into the 30th Annual Bayou Boogaloo Music and Cajun Food Festival. Over the next few hours, we walked around trying food, checking out vendors, sampling ice cream, and drinking some awesome freshly squeezed lemonade.
The next morning we woke up with no alarms and decided to head to The Village in for Brunch. Yup, that’s right… my husband and I enjoyed brunch on a Sunday morning while trying to plan the rest of our impromptu staycation.
After our stomachs were completely over satisfied we headed to the Movies. We decided to check out the Newly released “Yesterday”. The movie depicted a world where something unknown happened to change history removing the existence of the Beatles and ALL their songs, leaving only one man to remember them. If you haven’t seen it, I do recommend it.
Not wanting our day to end, we headed to the beach with no real destination. We soon found ourselves at Mini Golf, and for the first time in our history as a couple I completely dominated the corse.
Still riding the “I’m the winner” high, we strolled hand in hand down the board walk scooping out where we wanted to have dinner. Although we have our favorite spots at the oceanfront we wanted this weekend to stand out, so we ultimately picked a place we hadn’t ever been before.
The seafood at Rockfish Grill did not disappoint. We indulged in our favorites, steamed shrimp, calamari, and may have had a beer or two. The decor was also quit fitting for our date as it was completely decked out in Beetles Memorabilia.
Not completely ready to call it a night we headed back to the boardwalk for more, well… walking. We were approached by an old Chinese man peddling bracelets. He gently, yet forcefully kept adding bracelets to our wrists, while simultaneously pointing to a pamphlet talking about building some temple. He kept chanting “Bracelets…Donation…Thank You…Donation…Thank You…Bracelets… Donation” We finally caught on, and Brian pulled out his wallet reveling he only had $3 in cash on him. When he handed it to the old man, the old man proceeded to pull all the bracelets back off of our wrists leaving only one each behind and then walked away. Stunned at the experience we both just laughed and continued on our walk.
On our way back to where we had parked, content with our completely jam packed “Day Date”, we came across a street performer setting up. We decided to hang out a bit longer, ending our weekend with a few more laughs and hand holding.
It goes without saying, but I will say it anyway… I am one lucky women. My husband sure knows how to keep things interesting after all these years together.
