It was recently brought to my attention that someone asked the question, “How much do y’all get paid?”
On the exterior, we laugh it off. We are volunteers, and by definition alone, that should imply that this is a non paid position. This also tells me that many people probably don’t realize that our entire staff; Board Members, Coaches, Assistant Coaches, we are ALL volunteers.
None of us get paid for what we do. It doesn’t stop there, our association is a Non-Profit, that means that every dollar that come in, also goes back out.
Year after year there are always people that reach a point where they say:
“What am I paying for?”
This question always gets me fired up! I don’t consider us babysitters, and neither should you!
However, the going rate of a good babysitter is around $7 an hour, and that is for one child. Let’s consider the following: Starting August 1st, we have your children for 10 hours a week for 4 weeks, then 8 hours a week for about 8 weeks… that’s a total of 104 hours.
104 hours times $7 an hour is $728!
But that’s not what you pay for registration, you paid $170.
170 divided by 104 hours is $1.63.
But remember….we are volunteers….we DO NOT GET PAID.
In fact, not only do we not get paid, we PAY for our training in most cases.
We PAY to coach these teams.
So you are paying $1.63 an hour for your child to come and participate in a sport!
Where they are not only provided with equipment, but learn valuable life skills that
will carry on with them for many years to come.
